Lake Texoma Striper Fishing Report – BIG Texoma Striper Fishing!

January is the best time for BIG Lake Texoma Striper Fishing. HOLY MOLY they are large!

The winter season has crept into the North Texas area a bit. Fortunately, the cooler temperatures in January have turned on the big fish bite.

The Lake Texoma Striper Fishing is year round and has been so good that the StriperExpress boats are catching some limits along with the bruisers. When I say bruisers I mean the knock-your-socks-of, hang-on-for-dear-life bruisers. Nothing better than finally exhaling after getting that dude into the boat… whew!

january best for big striped bass fishing

What a catch! Just one guided group this week!

How can this be?

Lake Texoma is a world class fishery for Striped Bass.  These Stripers are a cold water fish and they feed on shad even when the water temps are in the low 50 degrees. Adjustments are necessary and change occurs often so fishing daily keeps StriperExpress guide staff in touch and up to date.

Fishing Techniques Change in Winter – Catch HUGE Stripers at Texoma

Lake Texoma striper fishing is a little different in winter time. You have to present the lures to them slower now but they bite it just as well as they did in November. We have a saying if you’re reeling too slow, then slow down some more.

More large fish are caught in January – February – March than any other months of the year. Last Thursday one of our customers fishing in just 15’ of water near a windy point boated a 27.49 pounder and a 21.11 pounder Striper on lures. Both were caught in the same afternoon.

The limit at Lake Texoma is 10 fish per day per angler. Remember eight (8) of these Stripers have to be under 20” long (3-4lb striper) and that is the challenge – most all our stripers we catch now, and the next 30 days, will be over that 20” length by a lot!

We like this problem!

Beautiful winter day and beautiful big fish!

Wes McAllester from Dallas TX pictured with his 13 pound, 30” long monster.

Wes McAllester from Dallas TX pictured with his 13 pound, 30” long monster.

Stripers seem to want a lure presented with less motion in cooler water so the “fluke” minnow style baits work very well now. Drifting with the wind quietly over large schools of Stripers with these flukes is HOT this winter.

Wonderful Lake Texoma striper fishing is calling your name. Come experience the fantastic winter fishing. This is perfect for company trips, family and friends.

Come and get in on your HOLY MOLY BIG FISH adventure. We promise to send you home with a memory that will last a lifetime.

Topwater Texoma Striper Fishing – “INSANE!”

The Topwater Bite Is On At Lake Texoma!
Bill Carey – Topwater Texoma striper fishing was prime today. A cool front was on the way this morning. The barometer was on the fall and the big stripers moved into the shallow water to feed. Perfect striper fishing weather with good cloud cover and a nice chop on the water.

Randy Wadell, Amarillo TX, October 25 wi Lake Texoma Striper Guides StriperExpressRandy Waddell from Amarillo, Texas got lucky.
He made a long cast with his Pencil Popper plug and when he made the second pop of the plug, Kaboom! A big striper inhaled the plug, ran straight at us and went under the boat.

Randy ran to the stern, cleared the motor with his rod as the monster fish reached the end of the slack line. The 7’ Castaway Mag Medium bent and the reel’s drag started screaming peeling off the 20-pound Trilene mono. Randy was ready and as soon as the fish slowed down he began reeling the fish. Give and take, the fight was on.

This fish was mean.
Randy had his hands full. Several tense minutes seemed to last an eternity.  We all gasped when the huge fish was at the side of the boat and we hauled him up with a dip net. This magnificent fish was a warrior.

I asked Randy how he liked Texoma top water striper fishing. He replied, “My Dad brought me striper fishing twice before. We caught a bunch of fish on live bait and I thought the 10-pounders we caught were huge.”

“I didn’t know we were going to fish this way today (with lures).”

“THIS is INSANE! I can’t wait to come back”

Vicious Bites and Extreme Fights! – Texoma Striper Fishing

Texoma Striper Fishing Guide Bill Carey

Texoma Striper Fishing Guide Bill Carey

No, it’s not “Desperate Housewives of Whatever”, it’s fat and sassy Texoma Striper Fishing!

The fall striper fishing on Lake Texoma is in full swing.  When I last reported, I said the top-water striper fishing was maybe the best in years. I wasn’t kidding! And it continues to be above our expectations.

Go Early or Go Late
, But GO
Early mornings and late evenings, just as in hunting, big striped bass are exploding on top-water plugs.  Every day we have been casting large top-water lures on the shallow banks.  The big ones are in shallow water for only one reason and that is to feed.  Whether you are an experienced fisher person or a novice, this is fishing at its best!

Amazing Top Water Fishing

Most of our Texoma striper fishing clients have been coming in with reports of phenomenal catches.  Somedays, the fish will bang on Pencil Popper plugs almost like they see it coming.  Then, you will have a day when the fish slap the plug with their tail and knock it two to three feet out of the water.

TIP: When Texoma Stripers tail-smack your lure, slightly twitch the plug and make it rattle.
“BOOM!”, the fish finds it, and the fight is ON!

Catch Giant Stripers In The Fall

Just this morning, we sent two boats out and you would have had to be there to believe it.  Eight fishermen using top-water lures caught and released twenty four big striped bass weighing up to eighteen pounds.

The top-water lure striper fishing lasts for about two hours, and then around nine o’clock we change our fishing technique – it’s time to follow the seagulls.

Seagull Fish Finder
Every fall, thousands of seagulls arrive to spend the winter.  They are your best fish finder.  The hungry bass will push shad (the food forage) to the surface.  Then seagulls fly in and dip up the shad.

We position our boats with the birds and the fish coming towards us.  Then we cast soft plastic jigs.  Multiple hook-ups are common with everyone on board fighting a fish at the same time.

Want A Striper Express T-Shirt ?
You’re in luck! Book a weekday Texoma striper fishing charter in October, then follow us on Google+ (StriperExpressFan), and everyone in your party will receive a complimentary StriperExpress T-shirt.

It’s our pleasure and our way of giving back. Join us and experience the fantastic fall bass fishing at Lake Texoma.

Lake Texoma – Best Summer Striper Fishing in Years

Bigfish by Striper ExpressWhat a summer it has been up here on Lake Texoma or the big pond as we locals like to call it. The summer striper fishing has been way above our expectations. This wonderful lake never ceases to amaze me time and time again. Many of the guides and locals agree that the Big T (Lake Texoma) is poised to have another big run.

We have been fishing a lot and wanted to take time and thank all the customers that fished with StriperExpress this summer. We can’t do it without you!

June and July fishing blew us away.  Good top water most days and even better slab-fest catching.  Rippin Lips in deep water for quality and quantity.

How about this August fishing? The isolated summer thunder boomers have triggered a lake wide top water bite. About every 2 weeks, just about the time you’re ready to “crow” the stripers will show you who the boss is.  We will have that tricky, bluebird dink catching day, but not this month!  The fishing has been awesome.  Lots of double digit fish with the largest this week weighing over 20 lbs. Top water at first light then off to the slab-fest.  Yesterday we caught and released 65 stripers and tossed back 12 overs up to 10 pounds.  The fish caught on slabs are running up to 1-4 pounds.

We are past the hottest weather of the summer.  The big stripers are roaming the shallows early in the mornings ready to crush bait.  Fall fishing is about to begin and we are ready.  I wonder, if the striper fishing can be this good right now how good will it be come December?

Now is the time to book your fishing adventure. Check out our Cast & Blast offer. Legendary striper fishing and hunt the premier flyway for Dove and Waterfowl at Lake Texoma.

Lake Texoma was born into history when Denison Dam was completed in 1944. Damming up the confluence of the Red and Washita rivers, created this 90,000-acre lake. The Red River Valley is full of history from the great cattle drives on the Preston Trail to stories of Davy Crockett, Jesse James, immigrant settlers, cowboys and Indians.

Lake Texoma Fishing Unrivaled
One of the biggest attractions to Lake Texoma is the exceptional fishing. Texas Parks and Wildlife regional biologist Bruce Highsmith summed it all up when he said; “Texoma is today probably the finest fishery in the nation. It has everything, both large and small mouth bass, world record blue catfish and
the best striper fishing in the world”.

The striped bass is the fish that the majority of fishermen opt for. Stripers were first stocked in Lake Texoma in 1965. Texoma naturally sustains an incredible striped bass population. Along with the best-documented natural spawn in the nation, Lake Texoma boasts a liberal limit of fish at 10 per angler. There are several ways to catch stripers. You can troll, use live bait and cast artificial lures for the fish.

Bass Are Plentiful
Striped bass are plentiful and considered some of the best table fare of all freshwater species. Because of the popularity of striper fishing, there is an abundance of professional Lake Texoma fishing guides to choose from. StriperExpress is one of the oldest and most reputable Lake Texoma fishing guide services.  The fish bite year-round’ and have seasonal patterns that make for a great experience anytime you can go.

In addition to the excellent fishing, camping and boating there is a bonus awaiting you at Texoma. BALD EAGLES! Every year as many as 250 bald eagles pick Texoma as their winter home. These majestic birds can be spotted all over the lake and below the dam. Some of the hens have wingspans up to 10 feet across. Bring your camera and zoom lens for some great photos.

Year in and year out, Lake Texoma is one of the favorite recreational destinations. For over 65 years people have been enjoying this huge border lake. We invite you to come and enjoy Lake Texoma. You can contact any of the local marinas or the many Chamber of Commerce offices for more information.

Top Water Striper Nirvana

Striper Fishing Guide Bill Carey

Top Water Striper Fishing Guide Bill Carey

All I can think about is topwater striper fishing at Lake Texoma!
If there is a season to pick as one of the best times to go fishing at Lake Texoma, you have to include the summer months.  The stripers have returned from their annual spawn.  They are hungry and attacking anything you throw at them.  The shad are spawning and this makes for some fantastic fishing.

Just today Chris Carey, my son and one the best Pro-Guides on Texoma, had a charter with four regular customers.  They went out at first light and had caught a dozen fish while casting the shallow banks.  The sunrise was beautiful and all were having a great time.  That’s when all heck broke loose.

A large school of stripers surrounded the boat.  This is a sight to be seen.  The shad were trying to escape the hungry stripers. Striped bass are schooling fish and ferocious feeders. The fish were knocking the bait 3 feet out of the water while running them towards the bank.  The anglers aboard were having multiple hook-ups during the catching frenzy.  Fish covered the deck of the boat.  Fast and furious would be an understatement.  Without another boat in sight, our group followed the school of stripers.  Within 3 hours the proud fishermen had kept 38 fish and released another 29 fish up to 12 pounds!

In March the white bass have already spawned and the stripers are staging up the main tributaries. Structure like main lake points, ditches and creeks will hold stripers.

1oz. RoadRunner and Sassy Shad jigs in white or chartreuse will work best. Fish the creeks in 12’ to 20’ of water with a slow retrieve for fish up to 20lbs.

Pay attention to the seagulls, they can be your best fish finder. When you are fishing under the birds keep your lure in the top 15’ of water.

Most activity will be west of the Willis bridge and north of the railroad bridge on the Washita arm of the lake.

Despite temperatures hovering around 40 degrees and a pretty good wind, we decided to head up from Dallas and meet guide Chris Carey from Striper Express Guide Service at the Mill Creek Marina.

By 2:30 p.m. we had lines in the water looking for big stripers as they schooled for an afternoon bite.

I got the action started with a small striper, followed by mom catching a pair of the biggest white bass I’ve ever seen — both around 18 inches and more than 2 pounds.

We were fishing with large jig heads and plastics, and Chris isn’t the kind of guide to sit patiently and wait for the fish to come to him. If the fish finder wasn’t marking fish and we weren’t getting bites, he was on the move — my kind of guide.

It wasn’t long before we noticed birds beginning to congregate along a rocky shoreline. Chris motored to a spot upwind from where the birds were dive-bombing into the water after baitfish pushed to the surface by hungry stripers below.

Working in depths between 45 and 15 feet, we had a nice run of big fish during the few hours before dark.

Mom with White Bass on Lake TexomaBIG WHITEY: Mom holds a monster white bass caught while striper fishing. The white was more than 18-inches long and over 2 pounds. Photo by Conor Harrison, LSON.

The fish didn’t stay schooled for very long, so we had to hunt them. We picked up one or two at almost every spot where Chris stopped.

Mom out-fished both boys in the boat, and it was fun to see her reaction when she first saw her first big striper surface on the end of her line. She hadn’t come prepared to catch a fish that big! We caught more than a dozen stripers between 25 and 28 inches. Those are the types of fish that Texoma is famous for.

There certainly are bigger fish in the lake, but for a day with tough conditions, the fishing was steady and fun.

By dark, we had caught several fish that reached 28 inches; they will be great to eat later this week.

Mom and I had a blast, and it was good to spend some time on the water with her. We don’t get to do it often enough these days.

Thanks again to Chris Carey for finding fish on a day with less than ideal conditions. If hunting for fish instead of dead-sticking with live bait is your kind of fishing, check him out at striperexpress.com for a fun day.
